The goal was to transform an existing kitchen into a warm, inviting space that balanced distinctive materials with elevated design. Expanding the kitchen’s functionality while staying within its existing footprint was essential. The original layout, with an awkward reach-in pantry and wall ovens, limited the available space and prevented the kitchen from fully supporting the homeowners’ love of cooking and entertaining.

Removing the walls surrounding the pantry and wall ovens opened the kitchen, creating room for an expansive island designed for gathering. A secondary, furniture-style prep island gives the cook a dedicated workspace while remaining connected to family and guests.
This thoughtful reconfiguration improved the kitchen’s flow and functionality, allowing the space to accommodate both everyday cooking and larger gatherings without compromising its intimate, welcoming atmosphere.

A stunning, high-gloss black La Cornue range established the project’s defining aesthetic: vintage French style with a modern edge. A substantial stone hearth hood and dramatic full-height backsplash frame the range, creating a striking focal point.
Patagonia quartzite adds movement and character to the gathering island, coffee station, and range backsplash. Highly textured character walnut and distressed black cabinetry bring richness and warmth, while an eclectic collection of decorative lighting introduces a bold, unexpected edge.
A brass bridge faucet, classic cabinetry hardware, and traditional library ladder complete the design, reinforcing the kitchen’s old-world character.
